D&C 88 is my text for this post. It is not my intention to expound the entire section, only to bring to the reader’s attention one very significant theological point that I feel the LDS are generally overlooking: the emphasis on PLANETS. As a help, I will put in bold all the references to planets.
The first sentence of section 88—The First Key/Clue of Understanding
Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you who have assembled yourselves together to receive his will concerning you: Behold, this is pleasing unto your Lord, and the angels rejoice over you; the alms of your prayers have come up into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded in the book of the names of the sanctified, even them of the celestial world. (D&C 88: 1-2)
This is the first indication that the Lord is going to start talking of planets, or, as He puts it here, worlds. The terms world, planet, kingdom and thing, the Lord will explain in this section, are all synonymous.
Third sentence of section 88—The Second Key/Clue of Understanding
This Comforter is the promise which I give unto you of eternal life, even the glory of the celestial kingdom; which glory is that of the church of the Firstborn, even of God, the holiest of all, through Jesus Christ his Son—he that ascended up on high, as also he descended below all things, in that he comprehended all things, that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth; which truth shineth. (D&C 88: 4-7)
Here we have the Lord using the second designation of the celestial world, calling it the celestial kingdom. He also starts talking about things. Later on He will teach us that the things He is referring to are planets or worlds. I will explain the reason for bolding God later.
The fourth sentence of section 88
This is the light of Christ. (D&C 88: 7)
This is referring to the ether which fills space. (I won’t get into this as it is not the topic of this post.)
The fifth sentence
As also he is in the sun, and the light of the sun, and the power thereof by which it was made. (D&C 88: 7)
The sun is one of the planet/world/kingdom things this section talks about.
The sixth sentence
As also he is in the moon, and is the light of the moon, and the power thereof by which it was made; as also the light of the stars, and the power thereof by which they were made; and the earth also, and the power thereof, even the earth upon which you stand. (D&C 88: 8-10)
The moon, stars and earth are some of the the planet/world/kingdom things this section talks about.
The seventh sentence
And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings; which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space—the light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is the law by which all things are governed, even the power of God who sitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of all things. (D&C 88: 11-13)
Keep in mind that the things are planets, which will be explained later. Also God will be explained later.
The 11th sentence
And the redemption of the soul is through him that quickeneth all things, in whose bosom it is decreed that the poor and the meek of the earth shall inherit it. (D&C 88: 17)
The 12th sentence
Therefore, it must needs be sanctified from all unrighteousness, that it may be prepared for the celestial glory; for after it hath filled the measure of its creation, it shall be crowned with glory, even with the presence of God the Father; that bodies who are of the celestial kingdom may possess it forever and ever; for, for this intent was it made and created, and for this intent are they sanctified. (D&C 88: 20)
The 13th sentence
And they who are not sanctified through the law which I have given unto you, even the law of Christ, must inherit another kingdom, even that of a terrestrial kingdom, or that of a telestial kingdom. (D&C 88: 21)
The 14th sentence
For he who is not able to abide the law of a celestial kingdom cannot abide a celestial glory. (D&C 88: 22)
The 15th sentence
And he who cannot abide the law of a terrestrial kingdom cannot abide a terrestrial glory. (D&C 88: 23)
The 16th sentence
And he who cannot abide the law of a telestial kingdom cannot abide a telestial glory; therefore he is not meet for a kingdom of glory. (D&C 88: 24)
The 17th sentence
Therefore he must abide a kingdom which is not a kingdom of glory. (D&C 88: 24)
The 18th sentence
And again, verily I say unto you, the earth abideth the law of a celestial kingdom, for it filleth the measure of its creation, and transgresseth not the law—wherefore, it shall be sanctified; yea, notwithstanding it shall die, it shall be quickened again, and shall abide the power by which it is quickened, and the righteous shall inherit it. (D&C 88: 25-26)
The 30th sentence
All kingdoms have a law given; and there are many kingdoms; for there is no space in the which there is no kingdom; and there is no kingdom in which there is no space, either a greater or a lesser kingdom. (D&C 88: 36-37)
The 31st sentence
And unto every kingdom is given a law; and unto every law there are certain bounds also and conditions. (D&C 88: 38)
The 33rd sentence
For intelligence cleaveth unto intelligence; wisdom receiveth wisdom; truth embraceth truth; virtue loveth virtue; light cleaveth unto light; mercy hath compassion on mercy and claimeth her own; justice continueth its course and claimeth its own; judgment goeth before the face of him who sitteth upon the throne and governeth and executeth all things. (D&C 88: 40)
The 34th sentence
He comprehendeth all things, and all things are before him, and all things are round about him; and he is above all things, and in all things, and is through all things, and is round about all things; and all things are by him, and of him, even God, forever and ever. (D&C 88: 41)
The 35th sentence—The Third Key/Clue of Understanding
And again, verily I say unto you, he hath given a law unto all things, by which they move in their times and their seasons; and their courses are fixed, even the courses of the heavens and the earth, which comprehend the earth and all the planets. (D&C 88: 42-43)
It is here that the Lord finally explains that the things He is referring to are planets.
The 36th sentence
And they give light to each other in their times and in their seasons, in their minutes, in their hours, in their days, in their weeks, in their months, in their years—all these are one year with God, but not with man. (D&C 88: 44)
In other words, all the times, seasons, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years of all of the worlds of the created Universe combined equal one God year.
The 37th sentence
The earth rolls upon her wings, and the sun giveth his light by day, and the moon giveth her light by night, and the stars also give their light, as they roll upon their wings in their glory, in the midst of the power of God. (D&C 88: 45)
Notice that the earth and moon are both female planets, while the the sun is a male planet. God, of course, is male. All these worlds are referred to as if they were people with gender.
The 38th sentence—The Fourth Key/Clue of Understanding
Unto what shall I liken these kingdoms, that ye may understand? (D&C 88: 46)
Here the Lord lumps the earth (a planet), the sun (a star), the moon (a natural satellite), and the stars (the rest of the stars or suns) together, calling them all kingdoms. The Lord is finally tying it all together so that we understand that He is talking about planet/kingdom/world things in this section.
The 39th sentence—The Fifth Key/Clue of Understanding
Behold, all these are kingdoms, and any man who hath seen any or the least of these hath seen God moving in his majesty and power. (D&C 88: 47)
The Lord again reiterates that these worlds are all kingdoms, as if to drive His point across so that we don’t miss it. And then He drops a bombshell, explaining to His saints that if you’ve seen any of these worlds, you’ve seen God!
This is because God, in addition to being the anthropomorphic, personal Being we worship, is also a planet. This is also why the ancients of every culture worshiped the planets/stars, calling them gods.
The 40th sentence—The Sixth Key/Clue of Understanding
I say unto you, he hath seen him; nevertheless, he who came unto his own was not comprehended. (D&C 88: 48)
Again, the Lord reiterates that if we’ve seen any of the planets, we’ve seen God.
Notice, also, that the Lord doesn’t say that if we’ve seen the planets, we’ve seen the Lord. In other words, He doesn’t say, “I say unto you, he hath seen me (the Lord).” Instead, He says, “He hath seen him (God).” This is because the Lord Jesus Christ, Jehovah, in addition to being an anthropomorphic, personal Being, is also a planet. However, the planet Jehovah is not currently around (in sight).
Also, seeing a planet is not the same as comprehending it.
The 41st sentence
The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not; nevertheless, the day shall come when you shall comprehend even God, being quickened in him and by him. (D&C 88: 49)
Keep in mind that the Lord is equating planets with God, so that if you see a planet, you see God. Therefore, in this sentence, when He says “you shall comprehend even God,” the Lord is referring to comprehending a planet.
The 42nd sentence
Then shall ye know that ye have seen me, that I am, and that I am the true light that is in you, and that you are in me; otherwise ye could not abound. (D&C 88: 50)
Don’t lose track, yet! Keep your eye on the ball and topic at hand, even PLANETS! The Lord is still talking about planets, only now He is saying that at some point we will see Jehovah (the planet.)
Perhaps to keep our attention firmly fixed on the topic of astronomy, as this is what D&C 88 is all about, the Lord gives the following parable about space and planets.
The parable of the man (Jehovah planet) sending his servants (planets) into the field (space) and visiting them in turn
Behold, I will liken these kingdoms unto a man having a field, and he sent forth his servants into the field to dig in the field. And he said unto the first: Go ye and labor in the field, and in the first hour I will come unto you, and ye shall behold the joy of my countenance. And he said unto the second: Go ye also into the field, and in the second hour I will visit you with the joy of my countenance. And also unto the third, saying: I will visit you; and unto the fourth, and so on unto the twelfth. And the lord of the field went unto the first in the first hour, and tarried with him all that hour, and he was made glad with the light of the countenance of his lord. And then he withdrew from the first that he might visit the second also, and the third, and the fourth, and so on unto the twelfth. And thus they all received the light of the countenance of their lord, every man in his hour, and in his time, and in his season—beginning at the first, and so on unto the last, and from the last unto the first, and from the first unto the last; every man in his own order, until his hour was finished, even according as his lord had commanded him, that his lord might be glorified in him, and he in his lord, that they all might be glorified.
Therefore, unto this parable I will liken all these kingdoms, and the inhabitants thereof—every kingdom in its hour, and in its time, and in its season, even according to the decree which God hath made. (D&C 88: 51-61)
Note: The joy/light of the countenance of the lord in this parable indicates that the planet Jehovah is a discharging star.
Next sentence and the rest of the section
And again, verily I say unto you, my friends, I leave these sayings with you to ponder in your hearts, with this commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall call upon me while I am near—draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (D&C 88: 62-63)
Now, when you read the rest of the section (D&C 88: 64-141), try to keep in mind that this section is a lesson in ASTRONOMY! The Lord is talking of heavenly things, meaning PLANETS! Nevertheless, as above, so below.
(D&C 88 is really long and I don’t want to take the time now to break down every single verse and show the planetary references. Anthony Larson, if you feel up to it, you can take up where I’ve left off. Maybe I’ll do it myself in a future post. But if neither one of us does it, I think what I’ve written above is sufficient to get someone in the right frame of mind to extract the astronomy from the section. Good luck to all, in that end.)

Can we equate “glory” with “light”? If so, then a kingdom (planet) with NO glory (D&C 88:24) would be a planet that gives no light. Or maybe an extremely dense planet that has collapsed on itself from which light cannot escape….black hole? If the immensity of space is filled with the light of Christ (or ether), then “outer darkness” would have to be isolated from the ether, maybe shoved down the infinitesimally small vortex of a black hole. That just might strip a body from his spirit, eh?

The concept of “black holes” has no place in a plasma (electric) universe. (See Lightning, Sticky Tape, and Black Hole Observations – Part 2.) The light of Christ is the sea of plasma that fills the Universe. Plasma has three discharge modes: glow, arc and dark. This is interesting as there are three degrees of “glory.” Within the bounds of the Universe is plasma (or, as the Lord calls it, “space”), whereas outside of those bounds is outer darkness (no plasma.) Plasma is required in order to cause a “dense planet” to collapse on itself. (Gravity is a property of plasma, not matter.) Also, with the theoretical black hole, light (plasma) cannot escape. Plasma would have to be there for it to be unable to escape. And vortices are caused by plasma, so the theoretical “infinitesimally small vortex of a black hole” also would require plasma.
So, when you say that “outer darkness would have to be isolated from the ether,” which is a true statement, it means that outer darkness contains no plasma (ether). There are certain things we can glean about outer darkness from what the Lord has said (see for example, Deep Waters: Lehi’s model of the universe), but He has been fairly mum concerning all the details. However, the current, (theoretical and) conceptual model of a “black hole” cannot exist in outer darkness because of the lack of plasma there.
In other words, the Lord kind of leaves us hanging concerning “a kingdom which is not a kingdom of glory” (D&C 88: 24). We know it will reside outside the Universal sphere of light (the created, plasma Universe), in other words, in outer darkness, but He doesn’t explain it to us as we are currently within a plasma universe, and the laws of a plasma universe do not apply to outer darkness.

As I look over what I wrote in this post, there is one other thing I could have brought out. Notice the mention of wings:
So, the earth and stars are described by the Lord as having wings. There is another thing mentioned in this revelation which typically is represented as having wings: angels. The LDS artists draw angels without wings, but all other cultures/religion draw them with wings. Obviously, we LDS think we’ve got it right and everyone else is wrong. But it may not be wise to make such a hasty conclusion, especially if what the Lord is referring to as angels is not really the anthropomorphic variety…
One last thing, it may be good to keep in your mind a list of the celestial objects in the heavens when reading this section. There are:
Stars
Planets
Moons
Asteroids
Comets
Meteors
In-between objects such as Saturn and Jupiter (star/planets) and brown dwarfs (dark stars), etc.

As I just now re-read it, I see that you did expound some of D&C 88, from verse 70 to verse 93. So, I would recommend to anyone that is interested in this topic, after reading my Keep your eye on the planets! post, that you read Anthony’s excellent post for further info on D&C 88.

The parable in particularly seems shrouded and rooted with some incredible thoughts laced in.

I continually find this particular start to it mind bogglingly ponderous. He is speaking about the kingdoms, the planets, as you have alluded. The kingdoms ARE the man who has a field. So, the field must represent the planets as a group, including the Light which makes up everything (plasma in between as you put it)
Earlier in the section, in an attempt to give it to us quickly he states, “Behold, all these are kingdoms, and any man who hath seen any or the least of these hath seen God moving in his majesty and power”
I wholly believe that we are living IN the mind of God. That the Spirit of God is the Mind of Christ, the Light of Christ in and through all things. That His body(s) are smaller than that mind, as it is all encompassing. In fact our bodies are his, though he has given us agency to use a portion of it to create identity and eventually a part in the whole process. We are only doing our tiny part to exalt a portion of the light to higher intelligence. And in so doing become one with the Mind of God (plasma?)
AS such, any person who SEES and Comprehends what they are seeing, the mind and very existence of God, in front of them, has seen God in action. They have looked into the Urim and thummim of existence and seen the vision of All, being full of light and knowledge. Existing at the speed of light (mind of God) for that period of time, they have seen all things, and all things are before them past present and future. They have seen the planets in action, exalting light through the agency of men.
Then, the planets or kingdoms are literally the “mother earth”-God. The portion of God that Gives birth to mortals, being quickened by the father, who is the quickening agent, the light. You stated that God is a Male. This is an oversimplified statement, as he is also female. There would be no God to you without male and Female, Mother and father fulfilling separately unified rolls.
What I’m getting at here is that the man in the kingdom doing the work isn’t the “lord” (physical angel coming here in form of man to do a work, or Jehovah planet in revolution) but rather the Planets themselves collectively , doing a work, each in there season according to the order of things. They send the Servant from one portion of their mind to exalt it, to another, in their turns. The servant does the quickening judgmental role exalting one portion at a time, and in turn using other angels and servants for the same purpose.
Tying my view of it to yours, I’d see the Jehovah Planet (planet x?) in a state of revolution. He is the servant that visits various portions of the Mothers Intelligence. When he visits, there is chaos, judgment, degradation and exaltation, the end of days ‘last’ dispensation. Exalting some portion of those planets through quickening and lowering others through displacement. The Man with the field than is not Jehovah, its the Mind of Christ which all planets are. The Jehovah planet is the exalted servant doing the work of exaltation in revolution visiting the 12 kingdoms in order.
Polygamy is the Human type of this form of creation and exaltation.
Using Gregs (thanks for the quote Greg) quote in this Ideal,
“he gave us to understand that there were twelve kingdoms, or planets1, revolving around our solar system, to which the Lord gave an equal division of His time or ministry and that now was His time to again visit the earth. Joseph is showing what I described. When that planet x (servant going to planets in field) is coming around to do his thing, the Lord Comes into the field of Wheat and tares (men) and prepares it for that servant coming. The Lord being the servant to ‘God’.

I have a nagging suspicion that Jupiter was struck on July 18th, 2009, between 1p.m. and 1:35 p.m. Eastern Time. Don’t ask me why I feel this way.
For what it’s worth, I’ve had enough experiences to no longer believe in the concept of coincidence. So, when there are two impacts on Jupiter–1 in July 16-22 1994 and again July 19thish 2009 that’s amazing. For the numerologist in me, the fact that these two events happened 15 years apart, pretty much says something big. What? That’s a discussion to have elsewhere if you want.

JL, I had actually been waiting for a certain something to happen and had calculated a window for it to happen of July 16-22. I calculated this months ago, but it didn’t dawn on me that those dates were also the same ones as the SL-9 impacts fifteen years before until I learned of this recent Jovian strike. (See my Twitter account.) I agree, it seems much too coincidental to be mere coincidence.
I forgot to mention that throwing in a solar eclipse on the 22nd just adds to it all. Not just a typical one, but the longest this century will see.

hey anarchist, what does this mean in your mind? A collision of Jupiter, how would that affect us? Perhaps objects that are coming this way, maybe impacting or at least affecting earth also, when they get here? I’m not an astronomer, so all I have is my imagination.
weeping, I don’t think we have anything to worry about concerning objects impacting the Earth any time soon. I think the impact on Jupiter, like the one 15 years previous (to the day!) were simply signs from the Lord. However, whereas the SL-9 fragments were tracked by our telescopes prior to striking, in other words, we knew they were coming, could see them traveling towards Jupiter and ultimately saw them strike, this latest impact came like a thief in the night. We still don’t know what struck Jupiter, nor exactly when it happened.
It may be that this is simply a normal occurrence, that happens more routinely than previously thought, or it may be that comets/asteroids are starting to get dislodged in their normal courses by the closer approach of a very large object, like the ripples in a pond caused by a pebble suddenly dropping onto the surface. Everything in the vicinity floating on that surface is affected by the ripples. Large objects not so much, but small objects, like comets or asteroids, maybe just enough to change their courses and cause them to be pushed towards gravity wells such as Jupiter. We still lack information to make such a determination as to the cause of these impacts.
However, as signs, they are ominous. SL-9 seemed to be a message of: “I’m giving you time to prepare for the changes on their way, changes that will transform your world radically, just as Jupiter was transformed by these impacts which you have seen from afar off and have expected.” The Wesley impact seems to be a message of: “Time is up and change shall now come suddenly, when you least expect it, just as Jupiter was caught by surprise.”
To me, personally, the Wesley impact was a double sign, as it happened on July18/19, right about the time that another (personal) sign was given to me, sooner than I expected it to. Prior to the Wesley impact, I had been looking for two things to happen:
1) Israel to engage in warfare with one or more of its neighbors, the result of which being that it would cease to exist as a State and the Jews inhabitants scattered, and
2) something to occur in/with the Mormon church, which would lead to its breakup.
As yet, all I’ve seen is sabre rattling among Israel and Iran, as well as Lebanon reports of Israeli arm buildups, but no conflict. And on the Mormon end, all I’ve seen are the reported kiss-ins in Salt Lake City and at the San Diego Temple, and the intended national ones planned for August 15. Who knows what will come of that? Maybe nothing.
However, after the double sign, sometime last week I got the impression that I was overlooking something: perhaps it will be the hand of God in the scattering of the Jews and the Mormons. I’m now thinking that something sudden may occur, in the form of acts of God (tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, lightning strikes, tornadoes, flooding, hurricanes, hail, etc.) Such natural disasters, of sufficient intensity and destruction, could come “out of the blue, suddenly,” just like whatever struck Jupiter, and could initiate the breakup somehow of both institutions. Perhaps a combination of human and heavenly heavy-handedness would be what causes the scattering.
According to the plasma model, an approaching object of vast size would undoubtedly affect the electrical circuit of the entire solar system, even still far out there. As electricity, for a good part, is the main instigator of such natural disasters (discharging plasma being the “on” switch), it is not beyond reason to think that what happens among the planets and between the planets (the electrical circuit) can affect the weather here on Earth, even without any celestial body falling to Earth. We are already seeing our Sun dozing without spots for far too long, so there seems to be evidence that something major has been and is still occurring in the solar circuit. If whatever it is is causing the Sun to sleep, a body so massive and large as that, then surely it can and will affect the Earth.
Comet Holmes was another sign, in my mind, growing to many times larger than the diameter of the Sun. What was up with that? So, my understanding is that first the Lord “speaks” and “acts” through the planets, as a preface to the sermon preached on Earth. Later, the order will get reversed.
Ya’ll have me a little freaked out!
Monday night, July 20th, my area experienced a pretty bad hailstorm (with tornado sightings) that was not expected. They were 1.5 inch hailstones that did lots and lots of damage. It lasted about 20 minutes and I thought it was the beginning of the end. LOL
On the bright side, a lot of people are getting new roofs!
One of the great lessons I take from the scriptures and temple ceremony is that of preparation. The Lord always prepares his people first, giving them the signs necessary to complete what is required of them. The feelings of anxiety are heightened with all the talk of 2012, and in this post with what several of us believe to be signs in the heavens. However, the fear is not necessary if we act. That just means prepare. For what? That will take personal fasting and prayer. And of coarse, continued watching.
Uhhhh, I feel like a broken record, but uh, well, like I said, keep your eyes on the planets…

Click on the above link, then click on the “ALPO Japan Jupiter Section” link, then choose the day you wish to see for all the images of Jupiter that astronomers are snapping. There are lots of current images.
The Thunderbolts Forum has a thread talking about the Jupiter and Venus spots from an Electric Universe (Plasma Science) perspective. Here is the link. The hypothesis is that the Jovian and Venusian spots are not caused by impacts, but by some of the Sun’s Birkland current filaments being directed into the planets. Read all about it.
Also, OWIW, on his own blog, linked to an article that claims that Russian Scientists think the Venus spot is from an impact and are saying the Western scientists are spreading propaganda in dismissing a possible Venusian impact. Here is the article he linked to.
