Breaking News: Joseph Smith’s Daguerrotype is scanned and uploaded

This is to let all visitors to this blog know that I have come across one of the (supposedly lost) photocopies I made of a possible/probable daguerrotype of Joseph Smith that I discovered around seven years ago. Prior to today, the only LDS who had seen this daguerrotype were myself and the three people I showed it to seven years ago. Spread the word, this may be the missing daguerreotype of the Prophet that was apparently recorded to have been taken of him. You can see the images and read the account of how I discovered it by clicking the following link:

  1. […] Another photo of Joseph Smith? LDS Anarchist has images of another another purported daguerrotype of Joseph Smith. It looks quite different from the other one. […]

  2. Where is all this talk of a “missing” daguerrotype coming from?

You can follow the discussion there, already in progress.

  3. Thanks for posting the images. They are really striking, they really do look like Joseph Smith. Thank you.

  4. You’re welcome, Matt. And thanks to you for the comment and visit.

Jared T., the talk of a missing daguerreotype comes, apparently, from Will Bagley, posted on RfM a week or so ago, and quoted on the Runtu’s Rincon blog, where I found it.

  5. Thank you for posting your reference to Bagley’s comment. I’m aware of that source, but It really doesn’t matter, since (if he was quoted correctly) he’s mistaken and doesn’t seem to give any basis for his comments.

  6. By the Way, LDS Anarchist. No matter how little I might think of this particular image, I don’t think anyone is trying to dissuade you from investigating it. I’m not. Knock yourself out. I would actually applaud you’re efforts. So, good luck investigating, and I’m sure you’ll keep everyone posted here. Thanks.

  7. I don’t see why everyone is being so pessimistic and rude about this daguerreotype. Here’s the way I see it: LDS anarchist came across a photo that struck him (I’m assuming he’s a him ;)) as looking an awful lot like Jospeh Smith and is trying to find out if there’s a possibility it is indeed Joseph Smith. Why are making such a big negative fuss over it?? I personally think it looks an awful lot like him too. What’s wrong with trying to find out? How exciting would it be if it was him?

  9. I don’t know who you are, Phantom Saint, but I read your linked page and I’ve decided to let your comment stay put, even though it has nothing to do with this post, if for no other reason than to have a link to your site and see what else you come up with.
